Claire Rauscher, Sarah Motley Stone Discuss “Internal Investigations, Board Privilege and Outside Counsel” at Public Pension Attorneys Event

Womble Bond Dickinson Partners Claire Rauscher and Sarah Motley Stone spoke on “Internal Investigations, Board Privilege, and Outside Counsel, Oh My!” at the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys (NAPPA) Winter Seminar. The presentation took place on Wednesday, February 23, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona.

Internal investigations can lead to complex, tricky questions about attorney-client privilege and fiduciary obligations involving trustees, board counsel and company personnel. Rauscher and Stone, who have guided governing boards of public pension funds in high-stakes internal investigations, addressed these questions, as well as what circumstances may require outside counsel. In addition, they offered advice on best practices in handling internal investigations.

NAPPA is a professional legal and educational organization. Created in 1987, its membership consists exclusively of attorneys who represent public pension funds.
